Welcome to the Design 39 Campus Science Olympiad Website
"Modern Day Science is a team sport". This quote exemplifies the spirit of Science Olympiad, where students participate, learn and work towards a common goal, all while having fun in science. Much like a soccer or basketball team, the D39C Science Olympiad teams need preparation, coaching, commitment and practice throughout the year. Each team consists of 15 students who cross-train for a variety of science events based on their interests and skill set. Each school can send up to 6 teams, allowing for a rich apprentice and mentoring system for all involved. At D39C, we decide the number of teams, based on student interest and the coaching/parent support system available for that year.
Science Olympiad (SO) competitions are like academic track meets, consisting of a series of 23 team events in the middle school division(Division B, 5-9th grades). SO is multi-disciplinary and covers a wide range of events across anatomy, genetics, earth science, chemistry, physics, geology, space, mechanical engineering, and technology. By combining events from all disciplines, Science Olympiad encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved. Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group participation and teamwork is key.
The culmination of more than 280 regional and state tournaments is the Science Olympiad National Tournament, held at a different university every year. This rotating system gives kids a chance to visit new parts of the country, to tour colleges they might consider for their undergraduate studies, and provides a memorable experience to last a lifetime.
