ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE STATE OFFICE
March 12, 2020

It is with deep regrets that I am announcing that the 2019-2020 Science Olympiad Missouri State Tournament has been cancelled. This action was taken out of an abundance of caution and with the utmost concern for the safety of all our participants, their families, our judges and volunteers, and the communities that all of our Science Olympians represent.

The following statement was sent to us by the National Office:

“The Science Olympiad National Executive Board has recommended that all Science Olympiad Division B and C qualifying tournaments on a forward-going basis be cancelled and will support any state’s decision to halt the 2019-2020 season. We do realize that different parts of the country are experiencing the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation disproportionately, but in this instance, we feel that supporting each other and showing solidarity to those students who are affected is important. Health and safety come first.”

Lastly, a personal thank you to all of the Science Olympiad team members across Missouri for your hard work and dedication. This is my 27th year working with Science Olympiad and I am filled with pride when I think back to all the amazing things that I have witnessed as an event coach, assistant coach, head coach, regional director and state director.  I have worked with so many gifted and talented Science Olympians over the years and watched you overcome adversities as you worked tirelessly to get your events ready for the competitions. The same spirit that helped you prepare for regionals and state is already beginning to manifest once again. From carefully boxing up the Mission Machine for next year to doing just one more test flight of the plane before calling it quits, our Olympians are once again showing the resiliency that has made this season a success.

I wish everyone the best and I know that we will come back next year stronger than ever.

Science Olympiad State Director
