Division C Head Coach Tasks and Due Dates
Participant and Head Coach wristbands will be available for pick up at Head Coach Check-in, subject to completion of Head Coach Action Task ListStudents will not be allowed to compete without wristbands. If a wristband is defective or damaged, the coach and student must bring the band to headquarters for validation and replacement before they are allowed to compete.

We have computers for teams to use in these mentioned events. Teams are not to bring their own computers. There are enough computers for each student to use at this point. However, there are circumstances that are beyond our control such as power outrages or computers sent to services unexpectedly. Regional will respond to any unexpected circumstance accordingly. The remaining events will be paper-based tests.

Building and Tools Policy for Constructed DevicesStarting 2024 season, the following Construction Parameters will apply to San Diego Regional: Participants must be able to answer questions regarding the design, construction, and operation of the structure per the Building Policy found HERE
Event Required and Recommended Equipment and Items- Please read event rules carefully and make sure your students have the required and recommended equipment and items. Depending on the items, teams may not be able to compete or be at a disadvantage if they do not have the recommended items. For example, Forensics allows each team to bring any or all of the items listed on the Chemistry Recommended Lab Equipment BRING them or teams will be at a disadvantage.
- Important documents in Rules Manual for coaches and students to read and follow: Chemistry Recommended Lab Equipment , Eye Protection Guide, Calculator Class Descriptions and Calculator and Events Matrix
- San Diego Regional recommends Writers in Write It Do It B/C to bring clipboards (Regional will have clipboards available for students to use if they forget to bring their own. Providing clipboards to Writers in Write It Do It B/C is an exception to the general rules of "Event Supervisors will not provide required and recommended items"
- Students are recommended to bring pencils to use for most written tests. Reminder, penmanship counts for paper written tests. If event supervisors can't read what you're writing, then you will not receive credits for the illegible parts.
- National General Rules: Actions and items (e.g., tools, notes, resources, supplies, electronics, etc.) are permitted, unless they are explicitly excluded in the rules, are unsafe, or violate the spirit of the problem.
- Don't be late. You must impound devices within the stated timeframe
- Devices must be impounded by one or more team members from the same team. Participants impounding devices may not necessarily be the competitors, requirement is from the same team.
- Students do not need wristbands to impound their devices and related materials.
- Students may use rolling carts for the delivery of their devices. After the devices are put into impound, the rolling carts should be taken to the Team HQ.
- Impound lines are reserved for participants only. NO head coach, event coaches, parents, or guests.
- High volume and short impound timeframe…please kindly stay clear of impound lines, reserved for competitors only.

Spectator Events:- Reminder 1: Once participants enter the competition area, they must not leave without event supervisor's approval and must not receive outside assistance, materials, or communication until they are finished competing

- Teams are welcome to start staging at approximately 6:30 AM
- At least 1 adult must be present at your Team HQ throughout the day
- Schools are responsible for cleaning up their camp areas at the end of the day (trash, equipment, supplies), and all trash must be in trash cans or in trash bags placed near trash cans.
- It is the responsibility of the head coaches to ensure their students’ safety while on campus. Students should remain in designated open areas and respect the school property at all times.
- Outdoor canopies must be weighted at all times. Weights must be fully attached to all the canopy poles and be at least 40 lbs in weight, per pole. If sandbags are used, they must be taped or tied to the pole; two one-gallon milk jugs (per pole) filled with water may be used as long as they are fully attached to the poles. Use of hard objects for weights is not recommended as they can cause other injuries if run into. Do not use sharp objects to secure canopies.
- Bring extra batteries, sunblock, tables, chairs, first aid kit, sanitizers, wipes, paper towels, tables, chairs, table covers, paper plates, snacks, water, etc.
- Arrange breakfast and lunch
- Pack school banner, notepads, pens, pencils, event campus map, team competition schedule, schedule of events, final Rules Clarifications
- Print, bring and distribute student labels/badges containing the following information: student name, school name, team name, team number, their events, time and location.
- Review Event Required and Recommended Equipment Items and bring items such as study guides, cheat sheets, goggles, Chemistry Recommended lab equipment, calculators, etc.

Head Coach Check-in starting 6:45 AMParticipant and head coach wristbands will be available at Check-in, provided that head coaches completed all of the actions listed at Head Coach Action Task List.
Participant wristband is required for testing; however, it is not required for impound

- Division A - Purple
- Division B - Green
- Division C - Blue
- Head Coach - Red
- School Provided Volunteer - Yellow
In case of event-related dispute, these steps should be taken in the following order:
- Student seeks clarifications from Event Supervisor to resolve issues/concerns. Make sure to discuss concerns with Event Supervisor only.
- If dispute is not resolved, participant consults with head coach to file an appeal. Appeal must be filed online.
- Event-related dispute occurs between 1st and 3rd testing blocks, online appeal must be filed by 12:00 PM.
- Event-related dispute occurs between 4th and 6th testing blocks, online appeal must be filed by 4:50 PM
- Appeal files beyond the stated deadlines will not be addressed.
- To ensure consistency and to avoid disruptions, head coach is not to approach Event Supervisor for clarifications or reconsiderations. Student is encouraged to speak directly with Event Supervisor before exiting the testing area.
- Team wishing to file an appeal must leave their device and design log with the Event Supervisor and to remain on campus until appeal has been resolved.
- Head Coach will be notified of its ruling, depending on circumstances, by any of the following methods: online, email, text and/or phone call.
- The Appeal Committee will do its best to adjudicate as fairly as possible. The decision of the committee is final.
Event Medals: the top 10 teams per event per division. Students may pick up medals for their partners. Coaches wearing wristbands may pick up medals for their teams.

Scoring/Point SystemNational Scoring Guidelines
Participation (P) ranks are assigned points equal to the number of teams that competed in the tournament in each division. No Show (NS) ranks are assigned one more point than Participation points. Disqualification (DQ) ranks are assigned one more than No Show.
Participation Points: Teams making an honest attempt to participate that cannot be assigned a raw score (e.g. safety hazard, mechanical failure, wrong dimensions, etc.) will be listed as a “P” for Participation
No Shows: Teams that do not show up or make an honest attempt to participate must be listed as a “NS.” This includes teams who may be present but display no preparation for the competition.
SDSO B: P=79 points, NS=80 points, DQ=81 points
SDSO C: P=67 points, NS=68, DQ=69 points

- Reminder 1: No parents, coaches, chaperones, or other adults not assigned a specific role in an event by the Tournament Director are allowed in the competition space and may not coach, advise, instruct, or interact with the Participants in any way for the duration of this event.
- Reminder 2: While competing in an event, Participants may not leave without the Event Supervisor's approval and must not receive any help or guidance from a coach, parent, or a team member not competing in the event.

Participant and head coach wristbands will be available for pick up at Check-in, provided that head coaches completed all of the tasks listed on the Head Coach Checklist

Color coded wristbands:
- Division A - Purple
- Division B - Green
- Division C - Blue
- Head Coach - Red
In cases of event-related dispute, these steps should be taken in the following order:
- Student seeks clarifications from Event Supervisor to resolve issues/concerns. Make sure to discuss concerns with Event Supervisor only.
- If concern is not resolved, participant consults with head coach to file an appeal. Appeal must be filed online. li>Event-related dispute occurs between 1st and 2nd testing blocks, online appeal must be filed by 11:45 AM.
- Event-related dispute occurs between 3rd and 4th testing blocks, online appeal must be filed by 3:15 PM
- Appeal files beyond the stated deadlines will not be addressed.
- To ensure consistency and to avoid disruptions, head coach is not to approach Event Supervisor for clarifications or reconsiderations. Student is encouraged to speak directly with Event Supervisor before exiting the testing area.
- Reminder, team wishing to file an appeal must leave their device with the Event Supervisor and to remain on campus until the appeal has been resolved.
- Head Coach will be notified of its ruling, depending on circumstances, by any or all of the following methods: online, email, text and/or phone call.
- The Appeal Committee will do its best to adjudicate as fairly as possible. The decision of the committee is final.
Division A Medal Awards - 2024
The team with the lowest overall points ranks 1st. Team with the second lowest overall points ranks 2nd, etc. Participant's medal placement will be determined by his/her team's overall ranking. Coaches wearing wristbands may pick up medals for their teams.
Place - Medal Color, Ribbon Color
- 1st to 3rd - Gold, Blue Ribbon
- 4th to 7th - Silver, Red Ribbon
- 8th to 11th - Bronze, White Ribbon
Participation (P) ranks are assigned points equal to the number of teams that competed in the tournament in each division. No Show (NS) ranks are assigned one more point than Participation points. Disqualification (DQ) ranks are assigned one more than No Show.
Participation Points: Teams making an honest attempt to participate that cannot be assigned a raw score (e.g. safety hazard, mechanical failure, wrong dimensions, etc.) must be listed as a “P” for Participation
No Shows: Teams that do not show up or make an honest attempt to participate must be listed as a “NS.” This includes teams who may be present but display no preparation for the competition.
Division A: P=11 points, NS=12 points, DQ=13
Team Headquarters Info and Suggested Packing List- Team Headquarters/Camps at Compass Point - first come, first serve
- Teams are welcome to start staging at approximately 6:30 AM
- At least 1 adult must be present at your Team HQ throughout the day
- Schools are responsible for cleaning up their HQ areas at the end of the day (trash, equipment, supplies), and all trash must be in trash cans or in trash bags placed next to college-provided trash cans.
- It is the responsibility of the head coaches to ensure their students’ safety while on campus. Students should remain in designated open areas and respect the school property at all times.
- Outdoor canopies must be weighted at all times. Weights must be fully attached to all the canopy poles and be at least 40 lbs in weight, per pole. If sandbags are used, they must be taped or tied to the pole; two one-gallon milk jugs (per pole) filled with water may be used as long as they are fully attached to the poles. Use of hard objects for weights is not recommended as they can cause other injuries if run into. Do not use sharp objects to secure canopies.
- Bring extra batteries, sunblock, tables, chairs, first aid kit, sanitizers, wipes, paper towels, tables, chairs, table covers, paper plates, snacks, water, etc.
- Arrange breakfast and lunch
- Pack school banner, notepads, pens, pencils, event campus map, team competition schedule, schedule of events, final Rules Clarifications
- Print, bring and distribute student labels/badges containing the following information: student name, school name, team name, team number, their events, time and location.
- Review Event Required and Allowed Resources and bring items such as study guides, cheat sheets, goggles, etc.

Student Login Instructions
- Click on "Student Login Tab
- Click on "Take online tests using Login ID" under Competition Day heading. Ask your coach for your Login ID if you have yet received it.
- If this is your first time log in to Scilympiad, after entering your Login ID and as you move to the password box, the first name and last name boxes will automatically appear. Fill in your first and last name exactly as submitted by your coach on the student roster, enter your own created password then click Sign in. You only have to submit your name once. Thereafter, log in using your Login ID and your newly created password. If you forget your password, contact your head coach immediately. They will be able to reset your password. (Head Coach Dashboard -> Submit Student -> Team Roster)
Students previously competed in tournaments using Scilympiad platform may use the same Login IDs and passwords for all tournaments. Login IDs and passwords stay the same throughout the season. Students must login using Login IDs in order to access event tests
