Battle of the States Science Olympiad Invitational Registration
Divisions B (grades 6-9) & C (grades 9-12)
Thank you for your interest in the Battle of the States tournament!
Registration remains open through February 5th! Events continue through December, January, and February.
This tournament is only open to schools in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Team registration will remain open through February 1st. New teams can continue to join for the later sessions at any time!
Registration Schedule
Registration will remain open throughout the tournament as long as the team number remains below the limit of 250 teams. To guarantee participation in each session, a team must register at least 3 days prior to that session's start date; however, we will try to add teams during sessions as logistics allow. If you would like to register during a session, please reach out to ben@miscioly.org to see if your team may still join.
Payment Information
Price is $30.00.
Discounts:
- New schools in their first 2 years of Science Olympiad can register one team for free. Select "NEW TEAMS ONLY - Discount" when going through payment.
Methods:
- Payment with PayPal will immediately register your teams. PayPal is strongly preferred.
- Payment via check is also available. If you must pay by check, checks must be mailed with an invoice, and your team will be restricted from competing until payment is received. Instructions for mailing the check will be on the invoice.
What is included in the fee:
- Access to events offered across four sessions in December 2025, January 2026, and February 2026. All events will be offered per Division. Some events will be adjusted from the official rules to run in the virtual environment. Any adjustments will be posted before the competition date.
- For each event a Champion State and Runner-Up State will be determined, and ribbons will be awarded to the top teams from those two states. Ribbons and shipping are included in the registration price.
What is not included in the fee:
- Medals for individual event rankings are not included in the registration price. This system is in place to keep registration costs low and offer a variety of awards. Medals will be available for purchase for places up to 10th place in each event.
Teams are not officially registered until registration fees are received and processed.
Team Limits
- There is a limit of 5 teams per school.
- Per the National Policy, all teams and alternate teams must be registered with your State organization. (For example, if you want to enter 2 teams, you must have your main team and an alternate team registered with your state.)
How to Register
Only an official adult team coach may register their team(s) for the competition. Students should reach out to an adult coach to continue with the registration process.
- Log in
- Click on "Register your school" above
- Click on Pay Registration Fees (system will ask you to add teams if you have not done so already)
- System will display the total registration fees and the available payment methods. Complete the payment through PayPal is preferred. If you would like to pay by check, click "Purchase Order" option, and then choose the "Print Invoice" to print the invoice that must be sent along with your check.
Team Numbers
- After you register and pay, you will not be access all the site's features and fully set up your team until after the tournament director has assigned your team a team number.
- Team numbers will be assigned near the end of November. After the first round of team numbers are assigned, team numbers will be assigned on a daily basis for newly registered teams. If it is after November 25th and your team has paid but not been assigned a team number for 24 hours, e-mail ben@miscioly.org to get set up.
