Science Olympiad
Welcome to the Coppell High School Invitationals!

Science Olympiad is nationwide competition. Students compete in 23 events that include earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Science Olympiad is designed to increase a student’s interest in STEM fields and provide recognition for outstanding achievement in team events. Students compete in Science Olympiad with the top teams advancing from Regional to State to National levels.

We are the Coppell high school invitationals offering you a brilliant way of competing in your event against other schools from all over the USA to see how well you stack up against others. We offer the following events:

  • Air Trajectory (Video submission)
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Astronomy: Notes can be accessed from a laptop or tablet. However, these must be locally stored; no Internet usage is permitted.
  • Bungee Drop (Video submission)
  • Chem Lab: Test only; no lab. Each team may print out 1 copy of the Scilympiad Periodic Table; no other version is permitted
  • Codebusters: Each participant may print out 1 copy of the Scilympiad Codebusters reference guide; no other version or notes are permitted
  • Disease Detectives
  • Dynamic Planet
  • Ecology
  • Electric Vehicle (Video submission)
  • Entomology
  • Forensics: Test only; no lab.
  • Fossils
  • Geologic Mapping
  • Helicopter (Video Submission)
  • Materials Science: Test & Build (Video submission), but no Lab
  • Microbe Mission
  • Optics: Test only;
  • Wind Power: Test only

Texas Trial Events: (Will not count towards overall score)

  • Bits Assemble: Participants will be assessed on their understanding of low-level computer instructions, assembly instruction sets, and their basic digital implementations
  • GeoWizard: Participants will be assessed on their understanding of global geographic and cultural features.
  • Ichthyology: Competitors will be tested on their knowledge of ichthyology (the study of fish) as well as their knowledge of Texas fish, including knowledge on how to catch them
  • We've Got Your Number: Students will use their knowledge of whole-number operations, number sense, and problem-solving ability to represent integers as expressions involving given digits and operations 

Registration:

Registration deadline: February 08, 2025 at 11:59 PM

Registration Fees: $20.00 per team

Logistics:

  • Tests can be taken from February 10th at 12:00 AM CST to February 21st at 11:59 PM CST
  • For testing events, notes CANNOT be online (except for events such as Astronomy which allow the use of online resources)
  • Only permitted calculators, as stated in the rules, may be used during the testing
  • All testing events will take place on Scilympiad
  • All build events (or events that require extra submissions) will require a video submission (with detailed guidelines)
  • Instructions about video submissions will be sent out at the start of the tournament
  • Schools must be registered with their state organization prior to taking part in Coppell High School Invitationals
  • Students should be supervised by a coach or adult volunteer when participating in this invitational
  • All tests will follow the 2024-25 National Level rules (Trial events will follow Texas state rules)
  • ALL UPDATES WILL BE POSTED ON SCILYMPIAD!!
  • Awards: A date and time for the awards ceremony will be announced at a later date. Medals may be distributed through mail.
