Options for scoring Fill in the Blank Questions

Let's say I have a question that requires the student to input three answers for that question. The Fill-in-the-Blank question format lends itself well to this type of question, given that the ES can create up to three blanks for the student to fill in. I was informed that for this type of question, only one point value is specifiable, which encompasses all the parts of the question, and the scoring is all or nothing. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me: I would think that each blank should be worth (Points specified)/(Number of parts) or even (Points specified) so that the entire question is worth (Points specified)*(Number of parts). This isn't absolutely necessary, because the question can always be split up into multiple questions, but I was wondering what everyone thinks, since this seems much more intuitive to me in the context of the questions that typically would be asked for fill-in-the-blank.

Let's say you have a fill-in-the-blank question worth 6 points with 3 blanks. Currently the system grades fill-in-the-blank as follows (this logic has been in place since 09/02/2020; prior to that, either all or nothing):

  1. All blanks have equal weight, in this case 2 points each.
  2. Answers in the blanks must be in the correct order.
  3. If a student fills in one correct answer for a blank, two incorrect or skipped, the student gets 2 points; 2 correct answers, 4 points, etc., ONLY IF the test has been configured to give partial credits.
  4. If the test has not been configured for partial credits, students must fill in all three correct answers to get full credit, otherwise, 0 points.
